The Victor Harbor CFS Group and its Brigades provide fire and emergency cover for the rural and surrounding areas of the Victor Harbor District, through the effort of local volunteers.
The areas covered by the Victor Harbor CFS include, Back Valley, Encounter Bay, Hindmarsh Tiers, Hindmarsh Valley, Lower Inman Valley, Mount Jagged, Waitpinga and Willow Creek.
The Victor Harbor CFS Group consists of the four Brigades, three primary CFS volunteer brigades and one unit from the National Parks and Wildlife - SA.Hindmarsh Valley - Lower Inman - Waitpinga - Fleurieu NPWSA
CFS Brigades being named after the local areas where they are based and provide service.
'Brigades' are the basic operational unit of the CFS organisation, with all CFS volunteers linked to a particular Brigade, which consist of one or more fire or other emergency appliances. The senior operational officer within a Brigade is referred to as the Brigade Captain.
Smaller incidents are normally controlled by the appropriate Brigade.
The Group:
The Victor Harbor CFS Group is the operational and administrative hierarchy of the Brigades. The Group coordinates the operational function of its Brigades during medium to large incidents.
The Group is also comprised of volunteers, with the senior operational officer referred to as the Group Officer followed by the Deputy Group Officer, to whom the Brigade Captains and all other firefighters are subordinate.
Most of the administrative and financial responsibilities of the Brigades are conducted by the Group.
Country Fires Act:
The Country Fire Service is established by South Australian legislation, the Country Fires Act, 1989.The Act charges the CFS with the responsibilities:
a) the prevention, control and suppression of fires in the country*;
b) the protection of life and property in other emergencies in the country*.
* "Country" refers to areas of the South Australia not covered by the SA Metropolitan Fire Service.
CFS - Corporate Mission:
CFS protects our communities from fire and other emergencies by:-
- reducing the risks they face;
- combating incidents that threaten them; and
- encouraging our volunteers who are the core of our service.
Where are we ?
The Victor Harbor Country Fire Service is location at the southern end of the Fleurieu Peninsula, approximately 80 kilometres south of Adelaide in South Australia. The area covered by the the CFS Group includes some 38,000 hectares within the Victor Harbor council area, with a population of 10,000 in the district and the township of Victor Harbor.

Brigade Training Days
Group (Combined Brigade) - the first Sunday morning of every month at 10.00am
Hindmarsh Valley Brigade - the third Thursday evening of every month at 7.30
Lower Inman Brigade - the third Monday evening of every month at 7.30pm
Waitpinga Brigade - the second Monday evening of every month at 7.30pm
