24/3/02 At approximately 3:00am Lower Inman and Hindmarsh Valley CFS Brigades were called to a house fire on Sawpit Road, Lower Inman Valley. The house which was unoccupied at the time was reported to the fire service as being fully involved in fire.

24/3/02 Four CFS fire appliances and a Tanker attended the incident, but little could be saved other than the nearby shed and contents due to the progress of the fire . As well as the water carried on attending units, additional water was pumped from a dam in order to extinguish the blaze. Twisted roofing iron from the house can be seen at the rear, which was removed by firefighters to extinguish the smouldering fire beneath the collapsed roof.

24/3/02 These photos further demonstrate the destructive force and devastation which can be caused by a house fire. The picture on the right shows the only remaining structures to be a few floor joists and sub floor brick walls, the rest of the roof, walls, floor and contents are burnt into ash.

General Note:
Fires starting within a house may smoulder and burn for some time before entering the sub structure of the house (walls and ceiling space). Keeping doors and windows closed can reduce the rate of spread, thereby reducing potential fire and smoke damage. The early detection and reporting of fire is therefore crucial for any fire, but particularly for house fires.
