Strike Team from the Victor Harbor CFS Group were called to assist with a
large grass/scrub fire between Delamere and Rapid Bay on the South Coast burning
about 600 hectares towards the township of Rapid Bay. Units sent from the
Victor Harbor CFS Group included, Victor Car 1, Hindmarsh Valley A34, Lower
Inman 24, Waitpinga 34 and Waitpinga 24. The above photo shows the uncontained
fire burning on the south western side of the fire where the Victor Strike
Team approached the fire.

density on smoke from the Rapid Bay fire can be seen from a vantage point
on No Where Else Road.

of the four fire appliances from the Victor Harbor CFS Strike Team moving
in to attack the Rapid Bay fire on the Southern side of the fire..

Inman 24 and Waitpinga 24 appliances knocking down the fire as it comes
out into open grassland.

fire outbreak from the main fire which is heading up a steep slope, where
vehicle access becomes more difficult.

17/1/01 The
uncontained fire moves quickly on the steep slopes on the southern side near
No Where Else Road, with tall flames which can be seen along the fire edge.

aircraft dropping foam into an inaccessible valley below a dam in "Salt
Cliff Sector", controlled by the Victor Group, in the southern division
of the Rapid Bay fire.
17/1/01 17:36 Another
outbreak occurs on the southern side of the fire and flames can be seen moving
quickly up the hill. Two Woods and Forest units and two CFS units manage to
contain the outbreak on the steep terrain.

of the "Salt Creek Sector" of the fire looking in a south-eastly
direction.

of the "Salt Creek Sector" of the fire looking in a north-westerly
direction towards the township of Rapid Bay. At this point the fire is basically
contained.

from the Hindmarsh Valley A34 fire appliance blacking-out hot spots
near the fire edge to prevent reignition into the unburnt areas.
